In Year 1, we were inspired by the countries of England, Scotland and Whales which make up the island of Great Britain. We spent some time learning about the difference between Great Britain and the UK and created collages of the 3 flags that make up the Union Jack.
We created our own crowns, inspired by the ones worn by King Charles and Queen Camilla at the Coronation. The nation’s favourite bear, Paddington, was the stimulus for our sketches and mini models. We used weaving to create tartan style designs for our Scottish kilts, displaying them complete with hairy, knobbly knees! Finally, inspired by the Welsh Dragon from it’s national flag, we drew our own versions, paying close attention to the details on the wings, claws and face.
