In Year 5, we were inspired by the island of New Zealand. The Koru (Māori for coil) is a spiral shape based on the new unfurling silver fern frond. The integral symbol in Māori art, carving and tattooing symbolises new life, growth and strength and is a common theme throughout our pieces of art. We used pastels, paint and clay to create our fern and Honu turtle pieces. We used a weaving technique to create our Matariki star clusters.
