The sun shone for Reception’s trip to Brockholes and a great time was had by all. We spent the morning on a “sensory woodland experience”. We used our sight to explore the woods and find some of the characters from the story “The Gruffalo” that were hiding in the woods. Next we used our sense of smell when we searched the woods for things to make a smelly potion with. We used our sense of touch to explore what the trees felt like and made our own tree rubbings. We closed our eyes and listened to the sounds around us. We could hear birds, snapping twigs and the distant motorway. It was then time for us to go to The Lookout to use our sense of taste to enjoy our packed lunches! In the afternoon we went back into the woods for a mini-beast hunt. The children found and identified lots of slimy and dry creepy crawlies including beetles, moths, slugs, worms and spiders to name a few.
